Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about CityReach's programs, including eligibility, accessing services, and getting involved as a volunteer or donor.

I would like to donate items to Club Freedom or outreach. What kind of items do you need, and how can I arrange this?

Wrapped soft granola bars, bottled water, new socks, or any new clothing are the most useful. Clean used clothing may also be accepted. Donation dropoffs must be arranged in advance by contacting Club Freedom staff. Feel free to call our office at (604) 254-2489 to connect with us. Please do not leave items outside our facilities.

I would like to donate financially to homeless outreach. How can I direct a donation to that specifically?

Financial donations can be made at cityreach.org/donate -- after clicking on the donation link, there is a drop-down menu on the next page to select where to direct the donation. Select "Club Freedom- Meals and Outreach".

I tried to sign up to volunteer, but it says I have to be over 19 years of age or 16 years of age with a parent or guardian. Why is that? And how can someone who is under 19 still volunteer with Club Freedom?

In order to keep our guests and volunteers safe, and comply with our insurance company's requirements, only those who are 19+ can volunteer without a parent or guardian. We may be able to accommodate groups of students when supervised by a teacher, sports coach, youth group leader, etc. Please contact our director Craig Savage at craigs@cityreach.org to inquire about this possiblity.

How do you ensure volunteers are safe while doing outreach, especially in the Downtown Eastside?

All volunteer teams receive an orientation prior to starting outreach, including best practices for keeping the team and those we serve safe. One of the most important is to stay with the group and not do outreach work alone. Our teams are led by experienced staff and team leaders with an excellent track record of making each outreach not only safe, but a positive experience for both those serving and those being served.

Your web site says Club Freedom features a "Christ-centered" worship service. Do you require guests or volunteers be Christian or participate in a worship service in order to be part of the Club Freedom community?

We welcome people of all faiths and backgrounds to be a part of our Club Freedom community as guests and volunteers. The great majority of volunteer roles have no religious aspect: meal preparation, meal service, setup, cleanup, etc. As for our guests, although we encourage and invite people of all backgrounds to attend the worship service, we do not require attending the worship service in order to receive a meal.
